Less space, tighter timing, completely different demands

People assume a supercross track is a motocross track shrunk down. It isn't. Take away the space and everything gets less forgiving — timing, surface, and how much room a rider has to fix a mistake.
Rhythm instead of speed
Outdoors, a rider can carry speed and use the land. Indoors or in an arena, riding is about sequences — a chain of decisions in a short space. The build has to make those sequences readable, repeatable and consistent lap after lap.
The surface does far more work
A compressed footprint means every bike hits nearly the same ground, so material choice, moisture and compaction matter more than they do on a big outdoor circuit. Getting that right is what stops a track falling apart in one session.
What changes in the planning
- Footprint and access — what can physically be built and pulled apart in the time available
- Whether the build is permanent, semi-permanent or set up for one event
- Rider mix, because a small footprint can't hide a gap in ability
- Sight lines for spectators, which genuinely affect layout in an arena
- How the ground gets maintained between sessions, not just between days
Arenacross: big riding, small box
Arenacross is the tightest version of the job. The aim is riding that feels big while everything stays inside a small space — done with layout and rhythm rather than by making features taller.
